This very masculine blanket and chair belong to my client’s husband. She came to my studio this week to pick up a Big Babe for a graduation gift. She was telling me when she first started to buy my blankets her husband gave her a hard time. He thought they were too expensive and she was nuts to buy them. So instead of arguing with him she simply bought him his own blanket. Well, he fell in love with it, and now encourages her to buy Lullababes blankets for whoever needs them. He is also going to buy one for all his employees for Christmas. Once again we have created an addict to the comfort and warmth of a Lullababes blanket!

So where am I going with all this? In Betsy’s time, almost everything you owned would certainly have been made in America. Unfortunately, most of the items in our houses these days are not made in the USA. I bought a shirt the other day, made in country I have never heard of!

I am very proud to say that all Lullababes blankets are sewn in sunny Southern California. Even when we are a huge, successful company, we will still have an American made product. It’s important to me and to America. Isn’t it nice to know some things are still done the same way they were hundreds of years ago?

So, obviously you can’t go to college with your kid.  What’s the next best thing?  This is where a Lullababes Blanket comes in.  Just because your baby is all grown up (at least in their eyes), it doesn’t mean they don’t need a blanket. From those humble beginnings, Lullababes has grown into a San Diego business with a full line of handmade blankets. And, San Diego isn’t the last stop on the Lullababes train. As the owner of this comfy company, Melissa Magee wants to share her blankets with the world.

With a growing base of local fans, it was time for the Lullababes line to try its luck in Tinseltown. The “Babes” (from the Baby Babe to the Big Babe) got their big break to shine – or snuggle – at the 2011 American Music Awards (AMA).

Short Notice, but Worth It

Melissa was given the chance to be a part of the gift suite for the AMAs. She was given two weeks’ notice. She needed to dramatically increase her current stock, but she was up to the challenge. In 11 days, she made 95 blankets! On November 19, 2011, she walked into the Ben Kitay Soundstage #20 with 120 blankets.

Blanket Provider to the Stars

From 11am to 5pm, Melissa and her Lullababes crew met with various celebrities. Early in the day, Lullababes became known as the “cozy table,” as various celebrities fell in love with the blankets. In fact, Maksim Chmerkovskiy from Dancing with the Stars actually cuddled with the Babes on the table.

Within hours, the table ran out of Big Babes and Between Babes. Not only did Melissa hear oohs and aahs during the event, but she also received feedback from celebs after the event. Former San Francisco Giants pitcher and actor (Moneyball) Casey Bond sent an email stating, “It was a pleasure meeting you a while back at the AMA gifting suite!  I absolutely love the blanket you gave me.”

Regarding her experience at the AMA gift suite, Melissa Magee states, “It was awesome watching celebrities touch the blankets and make the ‘wow that’s soft face.’ We went for the great experience and to introduce ourselves to Hollywood. And, we did.”
